Private equine practitioners, professional organizations, and industry sponsors join together to provide the future equine practitioner with an introductory view of all aspects of equine practice, from the large animal hospital setting to the independent practitioner, at nominal or no expense to the student. OEPS is limited to veterinary students entering their third year of veterinary school. Registration is conducted through each school’s Student Chapter of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (SCAAEP) in the spring of the student’s second year. OEPS 2010 will host the veterinary class of 2012.

 

The seminar is held at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 1801 Newtown Pike, Lexington, Kentucky.

Seminar Eligibility
To qualify for registration and funding:
  1. Student must be entering their third year of veterinary school in September.
  2. All attendees must be National student members of AAEP.
  3. Students must register as a group through their student chapter of AAEP.

Seminar Funding
OEPS provides hotel accommodations, meals, and travel reimbursements for a designated number of students per school. SCAAEPs may register additional students at their own expense for hotel and travel. Non-funded students are eligible for all meals, tour and lectures at OEPS. Schools are designated for airline or driving reimbursements based on a pre-determined expense schedule. Travel funding for 2010 to be announced.

 

Travel
Reimbursement checks are made payable to each school’s SCAAEP and distributed to each group’s leader on the final day of OEPS. PLEASE NOTE:  Airfare reimbursements are paid up to the designated number of funded students. Driving reimbursements are based on full attendance of  the desinated number of funded students per school. Please Note: If a school's attendance falls 50% below the funded attendance allowance, the driving reimbursement is  reduced by 50%Travel funding for 2010 to be announced (2009 funding shown below).

Hotel
Each school is eligible for a set number of funded hotel reservations with a required occupancy minimum (to be announced). Each SCAAEP must submit preferred roommate assignments when registering. If a SCAAEP does not have the proper number of registrants to fill 3 students per room, the extra student(s) will be assigned to a room with students from another school. The hotel room reservations for funded students will be made by OEPS. Non-funded students must make their own hotel reservations by calling Embassy Suites Lexington 1-800-EMBASSY. OEPS attendees will receive a special hotel rate of $125 per night. Students should indicate they are attending OEPS and ask for the OEPS STUDENT rate when making reservations.

 
 

Meals
Meals included with the seminar are Friday evening reception, breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday. All registered students are eligible for seminar meals. Please notify us if you need vegetarian meal options provided.
 
 Tours
Tours of local farms, Keeneland Racecourse and local equine veterinary hospitals are included in the seminar schedule. Tours are open to all registered seminar attendees. Optional tours are also available. Please go to the Schedule page for additional information.
