New Changes to OEPS 2010

The 2010 renewal of the Opportunities in Equine Practice Seminar, September 3-5, will add a new veterinary college to its registration list of eligible schools with SCAAEP chapters. The University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine’s (UCVM), first DVM class will begin their third year of veterinary school in fall 2010, making them eligible for OEPS attendance. The OEPS organizing committee and sponsors are very excited to know there is another thriving Student AAEP chapter and invite UCVM students to come learn about the exciting career avenues of the equine practitioner.
With growth comes growing pains! The size of OEPS presents many management challenges, and unfortunately, so does the current state of the economy. Due to several complicating factors, the funding protocol will change in 2010.
OEPS will now provide hotel accommodations for up to 10 students per school. OEPS funded hotel rooms must be booked to 4-person occupancy for the first room, and then 3-person occupancy for the two remaining funded rooms.
Travel reimbursement will provide a set reimbursement amount for schools within driving distance of Lexington, Kentucky and a per person rate for reimbursement of airline tickets for those traveling by air. Travel reimbursement details are posted on the OEPS website General Information page. Travel funding for schools outside the U.S. is subject to capped amounts and SCAAEP representatives may need to contact OEPS directly for funding information.
SCAAEP clubs may send more than 10 students, but additional students are classified as non-funded, do not receive travel reimbursements and must make their own hotel reservations. Non-funded students do receive a special OEPS discounted room rate and receive all meals, tours and lectures at OEPS.
OEPS assures everyone that these are minor changes and the quality of the program will not be affected. This program has inspired hundreds of students and launched many careers in the exciting world of equine. Don’t miss this one time opportunity! OEPS 2010 registration is now open.
